Rev. Dr. Maynard Koerner, Dean of Faculty and Professor of Ministerial Studies at Heidelberg Theological Seminary in Sioux Falls, South Dakota led the Worship Service on August 21, 2016. Dr. Koerner spoke in our Sunday School hour on his work at Heidelberg Theological Seminary. The seminary offers two theological degrees, the M.Div. and the D. Min. They currently have a total of twenty-three students, six of which are full-time.
Dr. Koerner explained that there are three ways in which nonresidential students may take courses: there are courses that have been pre-recorded and may be accessed via the Internet; there are go-to-meeting courses in which distance students may participate in a live class through the Internet; and there are two annual modules in which distance students come to the seminary in Sioux Falls for one week of intensive study. The fundamental perspective of the seminary is that future pastors ought to be trained by professors who are pastors. The core of a pastoral ministry that is biblical is the preaching of the Word of God.
